Katelynn Clifford Scores 1,000th Point
"Or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it!" Corinthians 12:26b
On January 3, 2008, Katelynn Clifford, a senior basketball player from GCCS, did something that only two other young ladies have ever done at the school. She scored her 1,000th career point. It happened at Calvary Christian School in the second quarter on a three point basket on a pass from Kayla Schenke. (Continued on next page.)
"It was awesome to see it happen because I know how hard she has worked to get to this point. This has been a goal of hers since she was in the eighth grade", said Coach William Capel, Katelynn's coach since seventh grade.
Katelynn is not done with goals yet! She is just 130 points away from Jenn Hice, who is GCCS's all-time girl's basketball scoring leader. As well, Katelynn and her teammate's goal of defending their 2007 Garden State Championship! Congratulations Katelynn!

Principal's corner: Eleven Ways to Help Your Child Tackle His Homework
- Use an assignment notebook so he knows what homework is required each day.
- Students in grades seven through twelve should keep a copy of the schedule at home since the same classes do not meet every day.
- Introduce a planning calendar and show her how to use it when she begins to have long-term assignments.
- Each day he should preview the assignments that he has to do and get the tough tasks out of the way first.
- Use a cooking timer to help "document" time on task.
- Only keep one subject on the desk at a time to reduce the image of being overwhelmed.
- He should write down the order in which he will do assignments.
- Teach her to review her work frequently.
- Encourage him to establish a regular time for doing homework.
- Eliminate distractions such as phone calls and television during homework time.
